About the role
- To design tooling and equipment in support of product and process developments, collaborating with CT’s development teams, manufacturing plants and suppliers.
- Take projects from brief and specification through to fit-for-purpose design solutions involving all steps through to final validation.
- Work alongside the electrical and controls team to deliver electrical/mechanical projects.
- Support with the administration of SolidWorks and PDM software.
Responsibilities
- Design prototype and production tooling, development equipment and test rigs related to the development of products and manufacturing processes.
- Meet challenging deadlines and targets within a multi-disciplinary engineering team and project-based environment.
- Plan, lead and deliver design engineering tasks from project definition, through specification, concept and detail design, commissioning and testing.
- Specify and procure commercial components, assemblies and machine solutions as required.
- Produce technical project documentation including technical drawings and construction files, following required site standards, regulations and European and international standards.
- Provide engineering expertise and advice to CT staff and businesses when required.
- Support other designers and users with use of design software and design best practices.
- Follow and inform on ‘state-of-the-art’ technologies relevant to core activities and Crown Technology.
- Coach junior engineers to develop their overall capabilities.
- Identify improvement opportunities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within design group.
- Use project management tools and engineering knowledge to deliver key projects to customers.
What we need from you
- Degree level or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Previous experience in a Mechanical Design role.
- Delivery of specifications and design of precision tooling, test rigs and special-purpose machine assemblies.
- Competent and previous experience in the use of 3D CAD and Data Management Systems.
- Previous experience in applying GD&T, tolerance and tolerance stack-up.
- Previous experience in the design process in development environments with an emphasis on innovation, quality and teamwork.
- Delivering engineering documentation in a tooling and machinery environment.
- Competent in the selection of engineering components, materials, and service providers.
- Ability to apply analytical calculations to design (stress analysis, kinematics, simulation, etc.).
- Full UK Driving Licence.
What we would like from you
- Previous experience designing for high-speed machinery or manufacturing equipment.
- An understanding of mechatronic principles and intelligent automation.
- Knowledge of CAE tools applied to part and assembly design.
- Knowledge and experience in working with a design stage gate process.
- Experience in administering 3D CAD software (SolidWorks) and PDM systems.
